Motion Graphics: Backwards/Forwards Theatrical Revue

"Backwards/Forwards" was a revue theatrical production by our school that looked back at the history of the school's musical productions.  One or two songs from each show were performed.

I was originally asked if I could record narration to be played before each segment as an introduction to the shows.  I asked the director if he would want a static banner to be shown during that narration.  That evolved into me creating dynamic animated banners that would play during the performances, as well as video or animated pictures of those performances to be played during the narration.

The banners were created using the original logos from the shows, and in many cases were directly influenced by the original posters.  As high-resolution copies of the logos were not available for the 4k animations, I had to cleanup or even recreate all logos in Photoshop.

I used Premiere Pro to edit the videos and animate the banners.  Though I was very familiar with using keyframes before this project, I was able to push the boundaries of what I think Premiere Pro is capable of as it pertains to animation.
The introductory video to the event, previewing for the audience the shows that will be represented in the performance.  The Animated banners that would be played above the stage are shown flying by in 3D space.
Cabaret:  I recorded the video of the original performance seen in the video, and edited the montage for the revue show.
Fun Home and The Wiz:  I recorded the video of the original performances seen in the video, and edited the montage for the revue show.  The Fun Home banner contains a redrawn logo and a page from the graphic novel the show is based on (all rights belong to the original artists).  Other elements are public domain assets from Pixabay.  The banner for "The Wiz" was created by student Francisco Guerra.

Using exported stills from the animated banners, I created a printed poster.
